The products of THOMAS POGANITSCH DESIGN are characterized by their fascinating minimalism. Their simple design in combination with the materials used has a timeless effect and invites viewers to take a closer look. Thus, his collection of bird flocks has evolved as an aesthetic gem for any design-conscious home: The handcrafted birds can be effortlessly mounted in various sizes on walls and other surfaces, where their delicate design can unfold its effect.

The birds are available in various sizes and are carefully handcrafted in the workshop in Vienna’s 2nd district. Various weather-resistant materials and surfaces are available to choose from: matte white ceramic, concrete, copper, silver or even decorated with gold leaf.

Because we love to tell true stories

Until a few years ago, an old basket maker from the outskirts of Vienna supplied coffee houses, regular customers and private enthusiasts with his newspaper holders. The family business had been manufacturing and supplying the holders since 1867; at the age of 90, the owner finally discontinued the business. In 2018, Thomas Poganitsch took over some of his tools and machinery and is ensuring that the products continue to be produced with the same quality and authenticity. And that a piece of Viennese history remains alive and accessible to the people. It has long since ceased to be just a matter of practicality for reading large sheets of paper: original Viennese newspaper holders are a reminder of an almost forgotten era and a tradition of craftsmanship.

About Thomas Poganitsch Design

Born in Carinthia in 1987, the designer discovered Vienna as his second home seven years ago after working for international design studios in Italy and China. Motivated by international awards, positive feedback from trade fairs and stores, he handcrafts each of his products in his workshop (near the Danube Canal in Vienna’s 2nd district). A correspondingly beautiful packaging design is just as important to him as attentive contact with his customers.
