RACHEL COMEY is an American independent fashion designer based in New York City. she founded her clothing, shoes and accessories line in 2004. Her designs are created on the relationship between materials and the target customer. She always tries to find new ways to rethink fabrics and techniques and to create something new. Every new collection there is a conversational approach to creating the designs by finding responses to “What does it mean to wear Rachel Comey?” Rachel Comey designs pieces that are bold, have innovative silhouettes and a rich mix of textures.
All woven garments are made locally in midtown Manhattan while footwear and knitwear is made in Portugal, Spain, and Peru. The collection is carried in over 100 of the world’s finest boutiques and department stores, across 16 countries.
Comey was widely credited for being the first major American designer to break with longstanding tradition and present her collection in Brooklyn over an intimate dinner party. The dinners provided an opportunity for Comey to show her collections in a fresh and intimate setting, and to create an atmosphere for conversation, as opposed to the typical runway show.
