OBEY is an American brand founded on the art, design and ideals of Shepard Fairey. What started with an absurd sticker he created in 1989 has since evolved into a worldwide street art campaign, as well as an acclaimed body of fine art. Shephard, who many will know as the artist behind the Barack Obama “HOPE” poster, founded OBEY Clothing in 2001 as an extension of his range of work. Aligned with his influences, ideals and philosophy, clothing became another canvas to spread his art and message. The clothing is rooted in punk rock and skateboarding counterculture and is heavily inspired by classic military design and workwear, offering t-shirts, caps, sweatshirts and jackets emblazoned with graphic prints and slogans. The brand is committed to environmental responsibility and ethical manufacturing, using sustainable factories and renewable materials whenever possible.
