The brainchild of designer Hardy Blechman, MAHARISHI has produced its award winning pacifist military designs since 1994. The roots of Maharishi, and offshoot label MHI, lay in Blechman’s former career in the military surplus clothing trade, which inspired Blechman to take the concept of repurposing to a new level. Maharishi’s vintage finds are reconstructed into new garments, while its original designs prominently utilize natural fibers. In either case, the result is innovative, modern streetwear that stands out, even from the sea of camouflage that we are accustomed to seeing. Blechman also found the time to produce 2004’s highly acclaimed encyclopedic tome on camouflage, ‘DPM: Disruptive Pattern Material.’
