KAZI work with artisans, predominantly women, from Rwanda, Uganda, Ghana, and Tanzania. We have talented teams of local Rwandans, Ugandans, Ghanaians, and Tanzanians working in each country who partner directly with our artisans.
Our artisan partners are extremely talented and weave everything by hand using locally-sourced materials native to the region. In Rwanda, our partners weave with sisal and sweetgrass. In Uganda, they weave with banana sticks and raffia. In Ghana, our partners weave with elephant grass. By using local and renewable materials we know not only where everything comes from, but we also can create more jobs for the local material sourcers.
