HIKERDELIC is a brand created by Mark Smith & Neil Summers of Proper magazine fame, who after years of writing about brands and clothing decided to make their own. The name is a play on words relating to psychedelic hiking, a pastime in the North West of England that’s found itself an underground cult following. Mark & Neil’s influences include the long and deep rooted history the North of England has with hiking gear, alongside a rich culture of free parties, raving and acid house.
The geographical location of their hometown, Stockport, meant that you were either in the countryside due to the peak district being so near, or the city which, more often than not; would see poor weather. This created the need for durable, weatherproof clothing which inadvertently saw a subculture of raincoat fanatics wearing the all weather gear in an urban setting. Due to the nature of raves and free parties being hosted in warehouses and fields, this look was adopted as a way to cope with the 6am post-rave journey home. From Sprayways to Berghaus, Mark & Neil were enraptured by this unique style, something they wanted to translate to a modern audience with Hikerdelic.
The brand has seen collaborations with the likes of Novesta, Barbour and Yogi, reimagining heritage and fit-for-purpose clothing with a trippy, contemporary edge. The brand may be fairly new to the game, but with their experience and passion for their product, show no signs of slowing down.
