A family business with design in its DNA: In 1967, Gubi and Lisbeth Olsen borrowed money from Lisbeth’s mother to buy paint and cookie jars to paint. The loan was quickly repaid, and bags, textile goods and plaids joined the cookie tins. This was the beginning of the Danish design house GUBI, which today pairs design and innovation in their products. Sons Jacob and Sebastian Olsen see themselves as treasure hunters whose recipe for success is a mixture of curiosity, courage and intuition. Since 2001, they have increasingly focused on the creative roots of the family business by translating their parents’ vision into the present. Much travel is part of this strategy to combine treasures from the past with contemporary design in collaboration with Danish and international designers. The results speak for themselves: an extremely versatile range of aesthetic, inspiring and useful objects. Thanks to simple, expressive shapes, high-quality materials and innovative technology, Gubi products are as functional as they are timeless. Gubi creates design icons of the present and thus of the future – and has become an icon itself.
