In 1952, Georges CAREL opens his first boutique in the Quartier Latin with his wife Rosette. It met with immediate success thanks to the students of the area rushing to the boutique after class. Along with the 60’s came a new wind of freedom blowing on fashion : skirts get shorter and are worn with low-heeled bright- colored shoes. The year 74 marks the beginning of a rich collaboration between the photographer JeanLoup Sieff and Carel. The success is such that in 1977 this latter opens a factory in Blois. These years have witnessed the beginning of fruitfuil collaborations between Carel and prestigious fashion designers. Castelbaljac, Thierry Mugler, Chantal Thomas, Jean-Paul Gaultier ou encore Karl Lagerfeld introduce Carel shoes on their catwalk runways. In the years 2000s, Frédérique Picard and Monia Ghazouani buy Carel to give the brand a second life. With the aim of rejuvenating the brand, they worked carefully on the collections, specifically on the “intemporels”.
